Origin
The Center for Creativity and Innovation Studies at National Chengchi University (NCCU) was established in August 2003 as a university-level research center.
Grounded in academic research, the Center promotes creativity and innovation through studies, outreach, and collaborative exchange. Its goal is to become a cross-sector platform bridging academia, industry, and government.
The Center strives to build a comprehensive theoretical framework and discourse system, using innovative thinking to achieve interdisciplinary integration and diverse development. It also aims to co-create value, nurture creative talent, and transform ideas into practical actions that address real-world social issues.
Vision
Creativity and innovation are key drivers of national competitiveness. In response to the global shift toward creative economies and diverse industrial competition, countries around the world have adopted educational policies that emphasize innovation and entrepreneurial thinking.
The Center for Creativity and Innovation Studies was established in this context, with the mission of fostering creative potential, advancing innovation in the humanities, communication, and social sciences, promoting interdisciplinary integration, and supporting industrial transformation and entrepreneurship. The Center's research teams execute related projects, stimulating cross-disciplinary innovation and real-world application.
“Innovation”is viewed as a continuous process of expanding knowledge and understanding across academia, industry, and research to meet societal needs. “Creativity”encompasses both the generation of original ideas and the process of putting those ideas into action.
The Center believes that true creativity results in both originality and relevance, and that such ideas must go through the innovation phase to be realized. Through ongoing interaction across disciplines, the Center continues to spark diverse and impactful outcomes.
Since its founding in 2003, the Center has evolved from a focus on “creative education and daily life” to broader explorations of “creative and innovative thinking,” “future imagination and entrepreneurship,” and “humanities-driven innovation,” leading to today’s emphasis on “multi-dimensional innovation.”
With a strong foundation in research, the Center for Creativity and Innovation Studies transforms ideas into practice, infusing the power of information technology and digital innovation. Its efforts are focused in three key areas: educational innovation, social innovation, and digital innovation.
Innovation is an ongoing journey. The Center will continue to explore new frontiers, build on its accumulated experience, and work toward positioning NCCU as a leading knowledge hub for research and innovation in the Asia-Pacific region.
Upholding the belief that creativity involves both ideation and implementation, the Center continues to develop diverse research and practice-based experiences, discovering how creativity can be activated across various fields.
Looking forward, the Center not only aims to become a premier innovation research hub in the Asia-Pacific, but also envisions fulfilling three major roles:
A platform for cross-sector innovation that connects academia, government, and industry.
A model for translating academic knowledge into social innovation.
A think tank for public policy on innovation and creativity.
By accumulating experience in these roles, the Center seeks to expand the university’s influence, integrate academic strengths across departments and disciplines, give back to local communities, and establish itself as a vital research and innovation base for Taiwan and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
